Molecular Roadmap Links Stomach Infection to Cancer Risk

Gastric cancer remains one of the world's leading causes of cancer deaths, yet the molecular steps driving its onset remain elusive. A new study has identified protein signatures that trace the trajectory from Helicobacter pylori infection to the progression of gastric lesions and eventual cancer. By combining proteomic profiling and single-cell RNA sequencing, researchers pinpointed 28 proteins that change consistently during this process. Two panels--one based on tissue proteins and another using circulating blood proteins--showed strong predictive value for identifying individuals at heightened risk. These findings provide crucial insights into the biology of infection-induced carcinogenesis and open new avenues for targeted prevention and early detection
