Pilots, Flight Attendants Have Greater Risk of Radiation-Related Cancer Death Than Other Professions
* Of more than 500 U.S. occupations, flight attendants and pilots have the highest and second highest proportion of radiation-related cancer deaths.
* This is the first study ranking cancer death risk using a single population-based data source and common adjustment approach, which accounted for several factors other than occupation that may affect mortality.
* Findings support considering occupational radiation protections for aircrew members commensurate with their level of exposure.
